This game still alive?
After 2 or maybe 3 years (I can't remember) I'm reinstalling this game to give a guy I know a rare shield that I have. While I'm at it I might just wander around and check out the old sites. So how is this game doing? This forum isn't as active as I remember but if I wandered into Sardalec Sanitarium or Droks forge or those good old places would I find anyone?

The game is still active. People here will say other wise but most people on Guru no longer actively play and not everyone who plays GW goes to the forums.
Droknar's Forge is no longer a "hot spot" - it's mainly Ascalon Arena American, Piken's Square, Shing Jea Monastery, and the port towns (LA, Kaineng Center, and Kamadan). Because of there being 4 games, people are spread out, so it might "look" like people are not as active anymore, but that's not really the case. I also suggest you look at the updates on the wiki from when you left to now, as there have been additions/changes. As would be expected. |

Yes, the game is still very much alive. A lot of things have changed, with the introduction of Heros it is getting rare to find some one actually looking for a group but it happens.
As for hot spots, for proph; LA, Pikens Square, Ascalon. For Factions; KC, Shing Jea Monastery and lastly Nightfall; Kamadan. In Eye of the North, the two major hot spots are the eye itself and Doomlore Shrine. |

If you've been away a long time, do the 4 solo missions from the bonus mission pack, they are really really fun and very well done, and provide a huge selection of nice weapon skins.

When i joined this site, i had around 4-5 guild invites immediately, so by that i think the game is very active.

If you want to play some end game area with a cookie cutter build or farm or play with heroes, then it's alive, but if you mean alive as in fresh challenges and good community then no it's very stale.

I agree. while any game over 3 years old with little new content grows stale for some, others find new challenges to tackle. "It's not dead yet!"

Guildwars will never die. It was, and still is one of the best MMORPG's made to date.

Yes, GW graphics does blow WoW out of the water...
But, No, PW will not take WoW by storm as it forces you into the cash shop at higher levels where you will spend more than a monthly fee and RL cash is what counts in the end. On topic: Yes there's life yet in the old dog - but finding a party to share experiences with is problematic - the best move you can make is join a good guild as soon as you can - that will provide you with the player interaction. |

I doubt GW2 or any "real" RPG will ever dethrone WoW.
WoW was made for the masses, not RPG fans. This is readily apparent by the lack of story driven lore. I played until my mid 70's and never once found the story actually pulled me in. I only started playing because the server pop in EQ2 died when AoC was released, and a bunch of my friends played it. GW did in two missions and has kept my attention all the way through. WoW is made for new players to the genre. I quit playing because after a while you learn that the same spell rotation will work in every situation. Literally. I only played tanks and mage's but the statement is true for both. PvP in WoW is pretty decent, that much I'll give it. Otherwise almost every other major MMORPG out there is a better RPG then WoW could ever hope to be. Popularity does not equal quality GW shines across the board, one reason I don't think more people play it is they just don't know about it. How many times have you heard GW brought up when people are discussing which RPG's they play? Sadly not very often. Last edited by VishnuOdin; Mar 09, 2009 at 06:21 PM // 18:21.. |

GW is the only MMO I play regularly. I've tried several of them (except for WoW, which I refuse to install) -- Shaiya, Perfect World, & Lineage II. They all seemed lame, both lore-wise and graphics-wise, after playing GW. I'm also not too keen on the pay-to-play setup like Lineage II, or the free-to-play-but-really-need-cash-to-advance games like PW.
I've always found enough players for a PUG when I needed in any town, so there are still plenty people playing. |

This thread is turning into another GW vs WoW rant. Since I have been playing WoW for the last month or so, I'll try to get my 2 cents in before the thread is closed

---------------------------- Basically, GW and Wow are just two MMO's. To try to say that one is "better" than the other is pointless. First of all, it's difficult to make valid "objective" arguements for one over the other, and, secondly, what really matters most is your own "subjective" opinion of them - that is, simply, which one you like better. My own personal opinion is that WoW is a "better" game than GW, but on the other hand, it's more expensive to play. Over all, I enjoy GW more than WoW, but I've done all I can in GW, so I play WoW atm. Oh, and yes, the graphics in WoW are not as good as GW.
